Starlink and i-spi – How it Works

Why are CCTV cameras not accessible remotely with Starlink?

Starlink is different from other geo stationary satellite providers. Starlink satellites operate in Low Earth Orbit (LEO); the effect of this is that latency drops from 600ms for geo stationary to 25-50ms for Starlink. In order to achieve this, the earth based terminal is actually a motorised phased array. It is not like traditional satellites where you just point it in one direction, the terminal requires a wide field of sky view.

The actual internet access is via a carrier Nat (CGNAT) which is like 4G networks. This means that you can’t set up port forwards on their (or any) router and Dynamic DNS (DDNS) simply doesn’t work. Starlink do not provide static IPv4 addresses. So in order to access your CCTV system on site from an ARC, you need an i-spi. The low latency of Starlink means you get excellent access to your HD camera stream.

The i-spi is the plug and play secure solution you need for CCTV remote monitoring – a neat, lightweight device that’s instantly deployable. Choose your NVR, and receive a public IPV4 address with four port forwards, enhancing your connectivity effortlessly. No complications, just a seamless connection with a public IPV4 address.
